Black Family Engagement Specialist
Hello! My name is Iyana (EYE-Yah-nuh) and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am so honored to be serving the Black community at Denver Public Schools!
A little about me, I am a former teacher. I have experience in Title I, International Baccalaureate (IB), French Immersion, International (in Taiwan), language disabilities, outdoor learning, special education, virtual learning, and post pandemic learning. I want to get to know YOU! Please be on the lookout for school visits and coffee chat with me so I can meet YOU!

Elementary: Got 30 minutes-1 hours at the beginning or end of the school day? Ask to volunteer in a kindergarten class! Believe it or not, it takes 6-year-olds 30 minutes to clean up and get ready for dismissal or the day. Your help would be appreciated!
Middle/High: Hall monitoring and mentoring! Middle school years are the years of testing limits. Teachers are doing their best with their limited time, but your help is still needed. We need more bodies in the building! Mentoring a student doesn't always have to have a formal process. Being in the school and conversing with students to guide them on the right path can have the same, if not a better impact.
Volunteering is a great way for you to show up as your full authentic self and be the representation our schools need.
